Friendship Magic Adventure in Mexico City

“Traveling – it leaves you speechless, then turns you into a storyteller.” – Ibn Battuta

On September 19th, 2017 an earthquake struck Mexico City with an estimated magnitude of 7.1. At the time, my flight had been booked. To say I was nervous was an understatement. I had originally purchased tickets for my then boyfriend and I to go on an adventure for five days. When that relationship abruptly ended a few weeks later, I made the decision to go on my own. What better way to celebrate a horrific break-up than an epic "Eat, Pray, Love" solo trip to a city you've never been to!

CDMX gets a bad rap. My parents and friends were quite concerned with the idea of me prancing off on a solo trip to Mexico City on my own. Yes, there are dodgy places in any city, but I have never felt safer in a major metropolitan city. (Except for my recent jaunt to Xochimilco on this last trip! More on that later.) I can't believe I'm writing this, but CDMX is a bougie, hipster paradise and I'm not afraid to admit that I'm all about that #bouglife.

Well, after I spent 3 months talking up Mexico City to my best friend, band and bizmate, Amy, it was an easy sell to get our boyfriends on board. So, we boarded a plan on February 16th and here is the insanity that followed...

The moment we felt the Earthquake. We were riding in an Uber from the Airport to our Airbnb. Our driver pulled over and we watched as people started littering the streets.
Beau had taken an earlier flight and was already in the city when it happened. His journalistic instincts kicked in and he ran to shoot.
The streets finally quieted and our hearts stopped pounding long enough to begin our first night out.
Our Airbnb was perfect.
There is just something about an Americano in Mexico. And the first one is always the best.
Highly recommend the burgers at La Burguesa! I mean, look how pleased he is.
We stumbled upon an awesome Fashion Popup for Diego Fernando. I can't wait to show you what we both bought. Photoshoot coming soon...
This gal got completely spoiled at La Unica. Best dinner and wine ever! If you are in CDMX I highly recommend you go!
After dinner, we met back up and listened to a Jazz trio at my favorite bookstore, El Pendulo. Then we got the crazy idea to check out an Ice Bar called Artic Bar.
This was it... jk.
I think I burned my bum sitting on the ice too long.
Doing my best Russian Bride.
The next day, we woke up and wandered the streets and markets in Condesa.
I bought all the patches and pins from these two adorable people. Post on that later!
Then we had lunch and headed to Xochimilo only to get followed by a man on a bike for 10 blocks. I think we were the only tourist on that day and we were quite easy targets. Luckily, we were able to lose him and whatever he had in store for us.
Happy to be getting an Uber and not being taken for all our money.
Back in Condesa, having the most amazing Cold Brew at Boicot!
Part of this trip was a bit of a work trip for Casey. He's a Brand Ambassador for Lumiquest and shot some portraits while we were in CDMX.
Dinner, Drinks, and Cigars at the Four Seasons was the most perfect way to end this adventure.
